Low GI Foods

What you need are foods that are low GI, or low glycemic.

So how do you make your diet more glycemic index friendly?

Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential ingredients in a low GI diet. The leafy green vegetables especially are low GI. Most fruits are low to medium, so having more vegetables than fruit is ideal.

Russet style and other white potatoes are not ideal for those following a low glycemic index diet while yams and sweet potatoes are a much better choice because they have a lower glycemic index rating.

You will want to seek out high fiber foods and complex carbohydrates instead of refined carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are absorbed too rapidly and cause spikes in insulin levels which in turn causes more free radicals and skin problems. For example you will want to avoid sugary cereals in favor of oatmeal or shredded wheat types of cereal.

You should also include plenty of beans and legumes in your diet. Many beans are considered to be super foods because they encourage good health in more ways than one. Great beans to include in your diet include kidney beans, black eyed peas, lima beans, chickpeas, and black beans just to name a few.

Reduce Saturated Fats

You’ll also need to eliminate saturated fats from your diet whenever possible.

Your total caloric intake should be made up of no more than 10% saturated fats. If youthful skin and beauty are your primary goals you will also want to avoid too much red meat, cheese, baked goods, cakes, cookies, and pastries. They are definitely not worth the price your skin will pay for the luxury.

The main dietary goal, when looking young is the objective, is to keep your body producing a nice steady supply of your youthful hormones, HGH, IGF-1, and DHEA.
